You’ve mastered the art of this whole writing thing!! And stoked to get your post out in front of your audience. You may think the writing alone (as bomb as it is) is enough to catch eyes. After all, “content is King,” right?

Well, yes. And no.

How to Gain Crazy Visibility For Your Blog in 15 Easy Steps

Your writing is powerful enough to grip an audience. But before it can grip them, it has to make it to them; which means we need to buckle down on the delivery piece and tackle a few key habits that will help your blog post gain exposure and get in front of the RIGHT audience. I’m going to show you how with the 15 easy steps on my blog post checklist.

15 Tasks to Put On Your Blog Post Checklist

Choose Search Friendly Keyword

Key Words reflect the main topic or take away message of your blog post. A well-defined keyword placed correctly within your blog post can help you maximize your visibility and make it easier for users to find your content on social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and search engines like Google and Pinterest.

Optimized Images

Featured Image

This is the image that you choose to represent your blog post. It’s the image that will pop up any time the link to your blog post is shared.

I like to go the extra mile with my featured images and create two:
The first image includes title text and the second does not. The second image is more appealing for social media. The first image is more cohesive for my blog.

Two Pinterest Images

If you are not already taking advantage of Pinterest as a sharing platform, you should be! Pinterest is an incredible way to get your content in front of the right people. For your posts to perform well you’ll need to make sure the image meets the right dimensions and is visually appealing.

At Mrs. Lo Tanner we created a minimum of two Pinterest images for every blog post. This allows us to visually cater to our audience (which is important because Pinterest is a visual search engine). We can compare the performance of the two images and focus our marketing on the image that performs best. Having two images also gives us the opportunity to pull in more than one demographic of people without extensive effort.

Add Alt. Text Descriptions To Photos In Your Posts

Not only does adding descriptions to the photos in your blog post help make your post more visible for search engines, it also puts a step ahead when it comes to websites like Pinterest, who pull the image descriptions from photos and use them as pin descriptions.

This photo can explain it better than I can.
See, here on the left is a picture of an image I am using in this blog post and the description I added to it.

Now any time someone pins this blog post, the picture and it’s description follow. You’ll find the same thing on google. The description follows the photo.

Using an alt. text description can not only increase your SEO score, but it can help lead people back to your blog! Yay for more visibility! @mrslotanner

Write A Meta Description

The meta description is a snippet or engaging hook that you use to attract readers to your blog post. It’s what search engines use to pull up your blog posts in their search results. A good meta description makes your blog post search engine friendly and can even help pull your blog post to the top of search engine rankings. You’ll also find it on social media posts like this one.

Having a completed meta desctiption can help readers find your blog posts on search engines (like google) and social media. This Facebook post is an example. @mrslotanner

Include Invitation to Join Your Community

You can have these invitations embedded into the post itself, or have it appear as a pop-up form. I like to sweeten the deal for my community members by offering them a free resource along with the invitation to join my tribe.

Use Social Sharing Buttons

Having these available for your audience to use makes sharing your content much easier. Just a quick click and your content appear in front of new eyes.  Social Warfare is a great app for that. It makes social sharing easy for you and your readers.

Add Resource links:

There are a few different types of resource link you can use in your blog posts.

Internal links

These are links that lead to more of your blog content (relevant blog posts, relevant resource, etc. all associated with your domain). This is a great way to keep people on your site and eyes on your content.

External links

These are links that lead to content created by other people. You don’t have to use them in every post, but they can definitely add value and credibility to your work.

external links —>> send readers other people’s site.

Affiliate links

If you are using your blog to make money through affiliate partnerships, adding affiliate links to as many blog posts as possible is a very wise move for you. Your income is based on how the number of purchases made through your links. You want to make sure your links are out there so people can use them and you can increase your income.

 Have An Affiliate Disclosure

If you are in an affiliate partnership, make sure you have the appropriate disclosures on your blog posts. The standard for disclosing varies from program to program. So make sure you research the programs you are affiliated with so that you keep your blog in compliance.

Proofread Your Post

If you’re like me and catching spelling/grammar errors isn’t your strength, a service like Grammarly will be very helpful to you. It highlights your spelling and grammar mistakes as you write and gives you quick suggestions for fixing them. I have it installed on my browser so any time I am typing online it Grammarly is helping me keep the mistakes to a minimum.

Craft A Catchy Title

Even in my own work, I have witnessed how revising a title can bring a blog post back to life and get blog traffic booming. Your title should be something that grips readers and entices them to read more. Here are a couple of the tools I use to crafty catchy headlines.

Compose A Gripping First Sentence (Hook)

Statistically speaking, you only have the first few sentences of your blog post to catch your audience’s attention. Most readers won’t stick around to read the rest of your post if they can’t connect with your introduction. So hook them while you can.

Use Subheadings

If your blog post is more than 300 words you should be using subheadings in your writing. Subheadings help you break down your work into more manageable and eye-pleasing pieces for the reader. Every 300 hundred words or so (or any time you changes subtopics) insert a subheading into the text. This will also help keep your readers attention on the key points of your article.

Get the Greenlight from Yoast SEO

Yoast is among my favorite of SEO (search engine optimized) tools. It takes your keywords into consideration and breaks down exactly what steps you need to take to optimize your blog posts for search engines. Once you’ve met their criteria, they’ll give you a green light which means your post is SEO compatible.

Ask To Hear From Your Readers

Every article you write should give your readers the opportunity to respond to what you’ve shared. People love to give their opinions. And in all honesty, you should want to hear what your audience has to say. Your voice isn’t the only one that’s valuable. That and the more people engage with your content, the more visible it becomes. Win, win. Ask a question and give them space to answer.

Be Authentic

Own your voice and let people fall in love with who you are. Readers can discern real from fake in seconds. They can tell if when it’s your voice or someone else’s and if they have to choose, they’ll follow the original; not the duplicate. So be original and own your voice.
