Easter for the Christian woman is one of the most significant life-changing events to have happened. It’s the continuation of hope. Even bigger than that, Easter is the fulfillment of a promise the world has been waiting for since the garden of Eden. Easter (or Resurrection Sunday as many refer to it) is the celebration of Jesus conquering death and sin and coming back to life after being crucified on the cross.
The Easter story isn’t just a story. This is real life. God promised it, prophets spoke about it, scripture recorded it, and for those who believe – Easter changes everything. So what does Easter tell us about God?

Is Easter A Bible Teaching?
Is celebrating Easter in the Bible? Interestingly enough, the celebration we associate with Easter isn’t witnessed in scripture. We see Jesus’ resurrection in the Bible and there is certainly excitement and a spirit of celebration that followed that event, but we don’t see is an actual Easter celebration noted anywhere. Especially one that included Easter bunnies, egg hunts, or the many traditions most people consider a part of Easter. I’m not even sure you’ll find the word Easter in the Bible. There’s a lot of skepticism surrounding the roots and history of Easter. For that reason, more and more followers of Jesus are taking interest in the biblical feast. People are even beginning to move away from the term Easter because of negative worldly associations.
NOTE: For the sake of this article any time you see the word Easter in this post, I’m referring to the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Nothing more, nothing less.
This brings us back to the original question, is there a biblical feast that celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus?
The answer is no, but there is a biblical feast that is closely related! We may not see an “Easter” in the Bible BUT there is a celebration that foreshadows the events of Easter – it’s called Passover. Where to Find Easter In The Bible
What Bible verse is the Easter story? You can find the Easter story in the Bible in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

I love referencing the gospel of John because it brings the whole redemption story together establishing God’s existence before the world, His creation of the world, how sin entered the world, and His plan to fix what was broken and restore life where life had been lost. The book as a whole is worth reading during the Easter season.

Romans 8 (Summary) – Why does Easter matter? What did it accomplish for us? Those are the questions Paul answers in Romans chapter 8. Sin is a snare that keeps us from experiencing the life and freedom God hoped for us. Romans 3:23 reminds us that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We can’t escape sin or the repercussions of it on our own. We need a Savior to free us and grace to carry us and a love that will persist when we fall. Through Jesus, God provided all of that. Romans 8 is a summary of how the events of Easter bring freedom to those who confess that Jesus is Lord (see also 1 John 1:9).
John 10 (Summary) – How does Easter demonstrate Jesus’ love for us? That is the focus of John chapter 10. In these verses, John uses the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep to demonstrate Jesus’ love for us. It’s in these pages that we understand His guidance and instructions for how to live are motivated by His love for us. We also learn that His love is a love that gives. It’s sacrificial. Jesus KNEW that to protect His “sheep” (that’s you and I) from “wolves” He would eventually have to lay down His life (see John 10:15). We call that event Easter. The good news – Jesus laying down His life wasn’t the end of the story.
Luke 24 (Summary) – What is Easter according to the Bible? Luke 24 is a detailed description of the actual Easter story described by the disciple John.
Ephesians 1 – How does Easter impact who we are and how we live? The impact Easter has on a Jesus follower’s life is so much bigger than the celebration can hold. Paul explains it in detail in Ephesians 1 and Ephesians 2.

The Women of Easter
This book was a pleasant surprise! I anticipated fluff but it was far from it. I love how closely the author stuck to the biblical story line and portrays the depth of each of the characters and the growth they experienced as they walked with Jesus. We often look at the Resurrection through a lens of what it accomplished for eternity. We rarely consider what it would have been like to have known Jesus, walked with him, and witnessed his death and resurrection ourselves. This book is the Easter story from the perspective of Mary of Bethany, Mary of Nazareth, and Mary Magdalene. I would read it again even if only to revisit the chapters on Mary and Martha. I love how quickly he connects that story to the gift of the resurrection itself.
