For a long time I wondered about Passover for Christians. Knowing that Passover is a big part of Jewish history, I didn’t want to seem insensitive or like I was trampling on Jewish tradition if I participated. For years I remember hearing that Passover is only for Jewish people. So imagine my surprise when I was reading my Bible and saw Paul teaching new followers of Jesus in Corinth about Passover and explains to them exactly why it’s relevant.
Humility creates an atmosphere where God alone is exulted. That’s what I think of when I see the Jesse Tree. It’s not the tree that stands out, but the stories attached to it, each pointing to the faithfulness of God and His love for us.
Some may see Easter as a pagan holiday. My response to that notion is this, like every other day in the world, “this is the day that the Lord has made and some people have that backward.” I can’t control what anybody else chooses to celebrate on Easter or how they choose to celebrate. What I do know, is that Easter in our house (or what we call Resurrection Day) is 100% all about Jesus. And on this day, we will give glory where glory is due; to God and God alone.
While we’re chasing the demands and responsibilities of the season its easy to lose sight of what a Christ-centered Christmas should be like and why we are even celebrating in the first place. This is about the time that people point to Mark chapter to and say, “well Jesus ate with sinners.” Yes, He did. But He did not replicate their behavior, their celebrations, or their beliefs as He did so. He stood firm on the Word of God and was Kingdom focused on His every interaction.
