What is a good Bible for a child?
If you’re a mom reading this, can I just say I’m proud of you! Growing up my mom used to say all the time, “the most important thing in this life is a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ.” So much of that relationship is nurtured through our understanding of the Bible.
As parents, we are the primary source of Bible teaching and discipleship for our kids. Churches do play an important role in teaching our kids, but the responsibility is one that God gives to us. Chances are you know that. That’s likely why you’re here; you want to start teaching your kids about God and the Bible and are looking for a good Children’s Bible to get you started.

Is the Children’s Bible the same as the Bible?
The answer to this question typically depends on what age group the Bible is designed for. Children’s Bibles designed for toddlers, preschoolers and early readers are very different from traditional Bibles and Children’s Bibles for school-aged kids. Not just in presentation but in content as well. Where traditional Bibles are complete and include all 66 books of the Bible; children’s Bibles tend to highlight only specific Bible heroes and stories. They are filled with bright colors and illustrative art that helps tell the story of God, creation, how sin affects the world, and how God sent a savior to redeem it.

Maybe you’re expecting a little one, or you have young kids in your home that you’re excited to start teaching about Jesus. You’re probably wondering, what is a good Bible for a child? To help keep things simple, in the next sections of this article, we’re providing a list of the Best Children’s Bibles for all ages.

But let’s say you want to teach your children about God the old fashion way. Instead of buying a children’s Bible, you want to teach children using yours. You probably have questions. What book of the Bible should Children Read First?
I’m a firm believer that the best place for kids to start with reading the Bible is in the beginning (Genesis) with the creation story. A perfect introduction to Jesus is the gospel of Luke.
This year our school-aged kids are joining me in reading the Bible in chronological order.
There will likely be stories that feel intense or that they may not get the significance of but that’s ok. As we read and grow, the pieces will come together and if they have questions we’ll work through them.
The smaller ones will be starting this year with the Jesus Storybook Bible. As we jump into the next section (our list of best children’s Bibles for kids) you’ll see why.
Best Children’s Bibles (Recommendations for All Ages)
So here we are at our grand list of recommended Bibles for kids. There are recommendations for all ages. And because we know that people have different preferences when it comes to translations, we’ve included different translations options for the Bibles for kids 8 years old and up.

Bibles for Toddlers
The Jesus Story Book Bible – This is our favorite kids’ Bible book to date! We’ve used it with all boys. It follows the Bible well, has great illustrations, and is good for toddlers up to elementary-aged kids. It’s the perfect Bible read-a-loud for little ones.
My Little Library: Bible Stories – This collection of Bible board books is made for little hands to enjoy. Each book features colorful art and simple stories from the Bible. Perfect for newborns and toddlers.
The Beginners Bible – This children’s Bible holds over 90 Bible stories written to young minds and illustrated for little eyes and ears to engage with.
Bible for 5-7 Year Olds
My First Bible Stories – This children’s Bible is perfect for young readers. It’s a collection of Bible stories and prayers written in kid-friendly language alongside beautiful illustrations. Children’s Picture Bibles

One Year Chronological Children’s Bible – It’s no secret around here how much I love Chronological Bibles. They read so much clearer than traditional Bibles, mainly because they tell the story of God and His creation in order of event (which is different than how a traditional Bible is organized). Children’s Bible KJV (Age 8+)

Children’s NIV Bibles (Age 8+)
The Fire Bible – Both my elementary-aged kids have a Fire Bible. What I love about it is that in addition to being a physical Bible it has an online children’s Bible app. Kids can use the app for trivia, Bible reading, and Bible games. For the kids who love to incorporate technology into their study, the Fire Bible and app is for you!
NIV Kid’s Visual Bible – The Visual Story Bible uses over “700 illustrations, photographs, infographics, and maps” to help bring the Bible to life for kids. It’s a great tool for teaching kids how facts and stories fit together to teach us about the goodness of God.
NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible – This one is for anyone who likes to meditate on God’s word by journaling or coloring. It comes with color pencils, sticker sheets, and over 600 Bible verses illustrated in beautiful script, ready for kids to color and to write on their hearts and memory.
