Not too long ago my kids were learning about Moses in Sunday school. The life of Moses in the Bible was basically summed up in three main events; his birth, the story of Moses and the burning bush, and of course, the Passover story We can learn a lot from those stories, but there’s more to learn from the moments between them.
I can’t tell you how many times I have sat down to pray or read my Bible and life gets in the way. Or how many times I’ve come to the end of my day hoping to get some daily devotional time in but by the time I sat down I just didn’t have any steam left. Don’t get me wrong, I believe there’s grace for the days we fall short. But what happens when falling short becomes a habit? What systems do you have in place to keep that from happening?
I’m going to walk you through some checks and balances that I put in place that help me make daily devotional time actually happens. They are simple enough that you’ll want to add them to your system and effective enough that you’ll want to keep them there.
Written prayers act as a living record of what God is working in your life. They become testimonies of God’s faithfulness and usher us into remembrance of all that God has accomplished on our behalf. Sometimes that’s just the kick our faith needs.
There are many ways to contribute to the growth of God’s kingdom. Motherhood is one of them. When we view our children as disciples, we are able to accurately view ourselves as ministers of the gospel. We have the opportunity to do the good work of building God’s kingdom right there in our homes.
Most people hear the word meditate and think crisp-cross-applesauce on the floor, palms on your knees, humming some sort of monotone hum. That’s not the picture of meditation you’ll find in the Bible. So what does meditation mean to a Bible-believing Christian?
In the secular world, the word friend gets thrown around like it’s nothing. If we know their name and they aren’t your enemy, they’re a friend. We calculate in extremes. The Bible however takes a different stance on friendship. Friendship is intimate… friendship is radical.
